cam chain tensioner

I think my stock one is going out. Where is a good site to buy one of those ape ones? I don't know how fast the stock ones go out so I don't want to ride my bike untill it gets replaced. When the stock ones do go bad do they ever get bad enough to mess up the motor or does it just get bad enough to only make a lot of noise? I would asume if it total goes out that I could kiss the valves good bye.

Stealership has the stock ones for about 85-100 and most have the after market adjustable ones to.

I did a quick google search for the ape manuel ones. I couldn't find a site selling the one for 03-04 636. The rest of the manuel ones were about 50 bucks.

The dealer can sell you the Race Kit manual cam chain adjuster for $70 or you can get the APE. It's the same as the 05-06. If the Cam Chain gets too loose, it will break the tensioner guides and major engine damage will occur; bent valves, broken pistons, etc: as said above. It will make A Lot of NOISE!

Well i've got about 22k on the bike. When I picked the bike up at 17K the major services had not been down. Its slowly been making more and more noise. So I decided to just park the bike for a couple weeks untill I get the parts and the person who does the work can install the part.

JK your bike will get out of time if it is real bad but normally you hear more noise from the cam chain when its loose.

Probably going to get one myself. Whats the proper way to set the tension on the manual adjuster?
