Cam Chain Noise - No more

I installed a Race kit (Manual) Cam Chain adjuster and some of the tapping noise is gone at least from the Cam Chain. It was $70 from the dealer but there are cheaper ones available from APE on ebay for around $50 that do the same. I thought about modifying the stock one and making it a manual adjust but haven't gotten around to it yet. I AM A PROCRASTINATOR![:@]

The stock cam chain tensioner has a ratchet mechanism that lets the plunger out when the chain loosens but there is so much play in it, that it doesn't take up the slack so the chain is loose and it slaps against the chain guide causing noise. Also, the manual adjuster keeps the cam timing constant and more accurate.

hahaha, I too am a procrastinator. I did not see on the kawi site on the manual adjusters for the 10r. Will look in my race manual. But until I get my ride back with the dollar amount, the stock adjuster will have to do.

It's the same as the ZX6R/RR manualtensioner.

Now the question is, how often will you have to adjust it? On a race bike this would be a regular occurance at least before every race. I guess only time will tell...

No way, it cannot be that frequent! Or are you saying after a race weekend?

The Race kit manual recommends Manual Race Kit Tensioner adjustment at every race. I doubt the chain stretches every race but that is what is recommended. I installed mine over 1000 miles ago and haven't rechecked it. The motor is still quieter than before the Kit Tensioner. I would say for street use, check it at every oil change. You probably won't be adjusting it/ tightening it much. It's a pain to get to and adjust!

hmm i didnt know it needed to be adjusted again after it was installed. adjusting is easy with the right side fairing off its check the slack on the cam chain that is a pain. i have had mine on for close to 2k miles and its still quiet.

I say adjust it when you start hearing some cam chain noise or check it at oil change intervals.
