06 636 track bike tear down...
What's up guys, i had a few question for all of you with 636 race/track bikes. I will be getting a complete 636 in about two weeks and i will be turning it into a dedicated track bike. So the first thing that i will be doing is stripping it down. What is the most i can take off but still be able to be track ready. I know the bike stuff like rims, rotors, motor, ect... need to stay, but what little things can i take off that i will not need any more. I know i will not need the following:
Fairings, mirrors, rear pegs, lock set, headlights, turn signals, rear seat, tail light. Is there anything else that i can remove to lighten it up and clean it up? Also else thing i take off will be for sale if anyone is interested in it.
Thanks guys for the help...

You got most of it covered. The smog equipment(hoses & valve between the valve covers)will reduce some weight. Get Race fiberglass fairings. TheStock exhaust is very heavy and replacing it will remove that weight. There is a really good deal on a Leo Vince Titanium Slip-Onright now.

Yeah i already have the race fairings ordered, that is why i didn't need to other fairings anymore. And i will look into that exhaust also. Do you know what DB that put's out? the track i will be at only lets 104db i believe and some exhaust are a lot louder than that. Also what smog equepment? Where would i find all of that? Also will that mess with they way the bike runs?

Get the suspension setup, get the glass, and go test. Forget about engine or exhaust at this time if money is an issue. Maybe not for you ie unless you have another couple grand just sitting around, but get the ride dialed in for you to go fast then play with more power.
Here's some track bodywork fairly cheap. I have bought some of their products and it fit okay. Made by Pit-Eck.

I agree on getting the bike dialed in but that extra exhaustweight after you remove the stock mufflerwill require you to re-dial the suspension again anyway. The LV has an internal (Removable)decibel killer included with the exhaust.

That's why I said they fit "Okay". I just got a carbon hugger from them and it's not the best fit but looks good. I also got a carbon fiber ram air duct and that looks good too but will require some adjustment. I'll post some pics when I get around to it. For track bodywork you can't beat their prices and you don't want perfect looking body because you'll be afraid to mess them up anyway.
What track are ou going to be running at? 104 is pretty loud and the akro is way under.
You can remove the fans also....won't need them on the track. Here's a list of mods I mad and why.
sharkskinz body work. they crash the best and easy to repair. worth every penny
akropovic exhaust, gets rid of the the heavy *** stock exhaust and Kawi's love em, I went from 109 to 115+ with just an akro.
Ohlins shock and forks, work done by thermosman BECAUSE SUSPENSION IS EVERYTHING!!!
Power commander, you'll need it to fine tune the after market exhaust and filter.
After market air filter, K&M is good.
Bazazz quick shifter, and don't forget to flip your shifter. You may need to fabricate a piece to do this with. I had a piece custom made that fits on the shifter at the end of the shift rod. WHY? Cause gp shifting is the ****!!! It's easier and smoother and faster. once you go gp you'll wonder why all bikes aren't like that. the quick shifter eliminates the need for the clutch when upshifting
Footnote. Bazzaz is currently working on a command module that includes a quick shifter, they also make a quick shifter that plugs right into the PC. Either way you're good.
woodcraft engine covers, when you crash you don't want to be fixin more tha you have to.
Hel brake lines, you gotta use the brakes sometimes and you want the best.
Vortex rear sets. also vortex sprockets if you ever have to change gearing....
Out of all that, your #1 priority should be suspension.
And a nice paint job never hurts LOL
My .02. I hope this helps.

May I ask on what glass you are getting?

Yeah i am not looking to mod for speed right now. I just want to get used to the bike first before i start adding power. The race fairings i am looking at are the ones on ebay. Since this is a second bike i don't want to sink a lot of money into it till i get a few track days under my belt with it. To see if i am going to like it or not.
