Default 00 zx6r wont turn on!! please help!!!

i recently bought a 00 zx6r.. but the problem is is that the bike takes a LONG time to cut on.. i took it to the kawi dealer and they said it was the harness and ecu/cdi so i replaced both and its still the same problem.. i also put in a brand new battery.. also when i finally do get the bike on and put the choke off it stays revving at 5k rpms! and gets hot!.. idk what to do and cant afford to take it back to the shop... does anybody know why its doing this?? thanks guys

Welcome to KF, I am by no means an expert, that being said your 00 is still a carbed bike (as I recall) so the ECU doesnt do much more than control the fire and shouldnt have any effect on the RPM. If its throttling up to 5k I'd start with the easy stuff, check for stuck cables in the throttle and choke, go ahead and lube them while your in there. Check your idle screw too, easy to overlook. If thats all good you may need to dig deeper, carbs could probably use a cleaning anyway if you just bought it. Let us know what you find.

Be thankful I'm spareing you my rant on shops that tell you your harness is bad...

No arguement there, I have just had people try to charge me 1K for a new wiring harness that I didnt need, and I have been bitter ever since. 2000 is a damn fine ride, you got an update for us yet ayalgol?

thanks guys.. well i found the idle screw and adjusted the rpms to stay at 1k so its not revving high anymore and i charged my battery over night and ever since then its been turning on a little bit quickeer but now i need to tighten the throthle wire cause its loose.. but now after i ride the bike around my neighborhood for a little while the bike turns off n i would have to jump it back on... would this be the alternator doing that??

In my 99 manual: Volt meter across the two black alternator leads that are now disconnected for testing. Run the engine to 6000 rpm for 5 minutes. Then run at 4000 rpm and check the readings. Should be 42.5-57.5 volts AC. If you are in that ball park then it is a damaged rectifier/regular most likely.

But check your battery first. That and bad connections are normally the issue.

Note: You did get some rpms going during your ride correct? You cannot charge a battery with low rpms cruise.
