Default Couple of questions regarding my new (used) ZX10

Hey everyone. I'm new ...well sort of new to Kawi's. this is my 2nd Kawi and 2nd bike in the past 6 months. (Had a HUGE hassle with my first bike/kawi and the dealer that sold it to me).

She's a Black 2004 10r with 4897 miles on it and a Micron exhaust.

I bought a little late into the year. The season has been over here for a few weeks now and its getting COLD here in NYC. But ive been riding for the psat 4 days for the fun of it.

I have a few questions....

Ive been reading something about an immobilizer and was curious if my bike has it. I want to make a copy of the key but the head of my key is big, almost looking like it has a chip in it. Does it have one?

Where can I read up on how to setup the suspension on my bike accordingly? Im a big guy at 6'1 and 245lbs. I need to do this.

Do they not make a cowel to replace the 2nd seat for these bikes or are they just hard to find?

Thats pretty much it for now. Ill be stopping in here alot. I'm a car nut and have been a bike nut for a long time but can now actually enjoy it. I"ll be spending my long cold winter days reading up as much knowledge as i can for the season to come.

Welcome NYC ZX6 Didn't ya know that green was faster! hahaha
Yes, the immobilizer is on the 04 also. I am not exactly sure on how to modify or add, but the ecu and the key is what makes it all work together.

On the suspension side. You need to play with the static and rider sags on the stock springs. I think that stock springs are close for you. I have a set of .95kg fronts and 525lb rear. I do not have the owners manual of the 04 in front of me, but if I remember right (not always the case), that the 04's ran a lighter spring than my 06.

So in other words I cant go to a locksmith and have him make me a copy of my key? I have to go through my dealer?

Any idea what that key will run me at the dealer?

Im a mobile audio/security installer for a living and I know the keys programmed at a dealer arent exactly cheap..never looked into one for a bike though.

Is there a website where I can read up on adjusting my suspension according to my height and weight and a how-to ?

thanks for the replies!

true there. Fortuneatly, have not played with that one.

Actually, there are a lot on line to help with suspension. Those should give you what you need for the time being if not all the info you are asking. Do that search. Basics are just that.

In response to getting a rear cowl to replace your passenger seat try Ebay...

Good question to ask them. I think that the ecu will reprogram the key but not sure really now. You have a tag on one of the keys right?

What do you mean a tag? Like a little serial number plate? Nope...Just a key, and a cheap rubber keychain from the dealer. haha.

One thing Ive been noticing while riding. I don't know if it's rider error or the bike....But when shifting from 1st to 2nd I sort of get stuck in neutral but the light doesnt go on. I go to rev up the gear and the bike just revs and I have to hit the gear selector up again to get it into 2nd. Im assuming Im not doing it hard enough the first time around so if its my error...my bad then. Ive been riding a little over 2 years now. Everyday for me is still a day to learn something new. I have alot of respect for bikes and I'm keeping both wheels planted firmly on the floor for some more time to come.

I was looking on ebay for stuff for this bike...besides the basic stuff like euro turns and other crap. The only seat cowl that I found was some UGLY one with VENTS on it.. wtf ?

I forgot to mention that its got a windscreen. Not sure what brand it is but its all black. It LOOKs good but i dont like it because i cant see out of it. Its a solid color.

And like i said, I cant find a cowl for this bike that doesnt have stupid vents in it.

Damper is next on my list but those SOB's are $$. Santa is coming soon> I think ivebeen a good boy this year. lol
