STOP whatever you are doing and go,,,,,,,,,

Bleed your brakes ASAP! 1200 miles on my 06, new Galfer lines and the whale p!$$ brake fluid from Kawi was burnt black in the calipers front and rear. New lines are amazing BTW, rear brake pedal travel is now short and effective, the fronts can easily skid the wheel and are a real 2 finger pull for hard stops. Now I can feel the forks flexing because of the brake, who's got a fork brace? Jim.

The stock brake fluid is garbage, IMHO, needs to go. The fluid in my calipers after a week or so of riding were black and burnt. The switch to SS lines was a big improvment but the fluid in my new bike was shot. If you haven't bled your out, if the bike is a week old like mine or several years out, swap out the fluid, big gains in feel and brake performance. Friendly tip, I was shocked how burnt my fluid was. Jim.

The most dangerous part of your bike, a rear brake!

The factory brake fluid is probably just as good as any other, what makes it stink is the fact that your bike may have been sitting in a showroom for several months, or even more than a year before you purchased the bike.
And the hydraulics you really have to watch are hydraulic clutches, like the one on the 500's big brother, the Concours. Brochures brag about hydraulic clutches as if they were something enviable, but the clutch's slave cylinder is bolt to the engine case, and therefore is exposed to that engine heat. This heat quickly cook the DOT4 up to the consistency of Campbell's Chunky Mushroom soup and will kill a slave cylinder very quickly.
I usually flush and bleed all my bikes' hydraulic lines at least every 9-months to a year.
