That's a su****iously good price for a new bike. The 500 is indeed big enough for you, but if you're planning on taking a passenger the 650 would probably be better.
I've got more than a quarter-million miles of riding behind me and have owned lots of larger bikes, but I opted for the 500 instead of the 650. (I'm 6'2" and 195 lbs.) I could justify my reasons and explain why I think the 500 is better, but it really boils down to which one makes you happiest.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Peace!

ok thanks guys. im not sure what u mean by comfort level but i dont think id be to nervous or anything. but i have zero riding experince. i wanted to take the msf course by me this summer but they closed it down and the nearest one is an hour and a half away
Yeah, I ran into the same problem. though, not that it was closed down, but full. A few hours of driving a day for 4 days is well worth it for the MSF.
as far as power of one bike over another and comfort/experience once you take the MSF you'll have some pretty good basic skills to tame either bike with proper clutch control.
My take on the comfort thing is, if you feel good physically on one bike VS another bike, get the comfy bike. I'm 5'11" 210lbs and I feel great sitting on my 500. never tried any other bikes, but I know the 500 is right when i sit on it.. it just feels right.
good luck.

i had zero riding experience and got my permit, rode a little everyday until i felt comfortable enough to get out in traffic. took like a couple hours and that 500 felt like home to me. i took the drivin portion of the test after 6 weeks of ridin back and forth to work(and a couple 200 mile rides to various places) and passed the test easily. just my 2 cents worth
hey well thanks for all the help guys im stil a little ways off from buying a bike just yet but its nice to have some kinda of idea. well i guess il go sit on some and see how it works out. thanks again
I would only caution you to not be nervous in one way. I was new not so long ago, and I really still am, and I know that everyone has told me that once you aren't scared or the slightest bit nervous that that is when you are most likely to do something stupid...so be careful! They are great, I own a 500 and it's a fun ride.
