Newbie looking for info............
 

Hi guys, new to the forum. I just picked up my 06 500r Friday. I bought it to replace my 06 Suzuki GS500f that got totalled in my recent accident.[sm=smiley11.gif]

I am looking for information regarding the after break-in service visit that the dealership recommends. I am very mechanically inclined and do my own work on my cars, snowmobiles, wave-runners, you get the picture.....I don't like taking my toys in for someone else to do, just wondering if anyone has a list of what items should be checked/adjusted, aside from changing the oil. I know on my Suzuki they recommended the chain tension to be checked. Any help would be appreciated!!!!

Also, wondering what point this particular bike can accept synthetic oil, I know most bikes require about 3,000-4,000 miles before running synthetic, but I'm sure you guys know best, as most of you have owned your bikes longet than I have.[sm=smiley20.gif]

Probably a good idea to stick with the non-synthetic oil for the first 3-4K.
I do my own valve adjustments, etc and have rebuilt a few engines, but I still take it in for the break-in service. Why? Because if you don't have this done, some dealerships may not honor the warranty if anything goes wrong.
Good luck, and if you do let the dealership perform your first service, keep the receipt.

A 17 year old girl pulled out in front of me. To make a long story short, the roads were wet and there was no room for breaking(about 10-15 feet). The bike hit the back of her car and bounced off, and I slid into her drivers door and smashed it in. Not fun..........................

I am ok now, just started walking again on my own two feet about 2-3 weeks ago. Here's a few pics of what my leg looked like a few days after I was released from the hospital. With a titanium rod, 4 screws, and some physical therapy 2-3 times a week, things are getting better everyday.

Congratulations on the walking and on the progress in therapy! I've had my share accidents and appreciate what a joy walking can be after an accident like this. (Sometimes I can't believe I'm not in a wheelchair or wearing an adult diaper for the rest of my life.)
Awesome that you love riding enough to continue too! I'm sure you're family must have been busting your balls about getting back on the bike. (Mine did.)
