250 or 500?
I'm in the market for a bike. And I am leaning towards the 250 because of the price, and the fact that I'm very new to riding. Many people tell me I will outgrow the 250 within months of riding one. I'm 5'8 about 150, not too big of a guy. Don't you think that the 250 is perfect for me? I feel that the bike may be good for my small size.
Im maybe 5'11 or 6'0 and 230 pounds. I have a 2006 500 and I love it. There isnt enough power to hurt yourself (unless you are a real moron, or very bad at paying attention). I thought I wanted a 250 at first because of price and gas mileage, so I rode a friends a few times around my neighborhood. I would definitely suggest the 500 over the 250. It handles exceptionally well if you learn the basics, havent dropped it yet!!! 500
Be smart about how you ride your bike and it won't matter what size you get. I just went with the 250 for the fuel mileage and price personally. When I want to tear it up, I take out my 750.
The 500 will definitely be faster than the 250, but it's not gonna be powerful enough to keep you always wanting more!

You can have just as much fun with either one. Get which ever one you are more comfortable with. Don't listen to all those people telling you that you will outgrow it.........how do they know???? I've had tons of people tell me the same thing. At the end of last year (which was my first on a bike) I had people asking what I was going to get for this year. I have no intention on upgrading - for my riding style, this bike is 100% of what I want and need.
So long and short of it - get the one you want and you will be happy with your choice. Good luck and keep us posted on what you end up getting!

I myself was actually in the market for a 250 however after looking at the 500, for only 2,000 more I think its worth it.
The 500 looked better, performed better, and can keep up with the bigger bikes.
If its for pure economy and moderate fun then the 250 is fine. However if your looking for a little more... "oomph" and have a couple of extra grand to spend, get the 500, it still is a beginner bike...
The 250 will be fun untill you cant keep up with your friends, might not be an issue for you.
However do the smart thing, if you dont know how to ride a motorcycle, take a beginner course. Even if you have had "some" experence.
I didnt take the class, lets just say I was forced to learn the concept of counter-steering after I almost went off the side of the road, because leaning wasnt doing much, and luckley instinct took over.
I, am an Idiot. Take the course.
