Want a 250 bad!
Hey all im new to this site but i have read almost every post on 250s. I am 15 and i really want Ninja 250, but the only problem is that my dad is really hard to talk into getting it. I can get my motorcycles permitt here in hoover Alabama and it is a written test (very simple). The reason i love this bike so much is because my freind that goes to high school with me has one . Its awsome and im pretty sure it has enough power for me. I had a job over the summer and made 4 thousand dollars so i have the money also. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can talk my dad into letting me get it ? (I am pretty experienced with dirtbikes and some racing 4 ATVs like the z 450)
Welcome to KF, and good first question! LOL
I don't know exactly how you could persuade your dad into letting you have one.[:@] Your experience with dirt bikes has to help a little though. Even if I had a kid your age, I'm not sure I would want him or her to ride a motorcycle on the street at least until they got a little older. Your dad knows that just because you know how to ride a motorcycle, doesn't mean you're gonna be able to negotiate traffic well. It's all about your experience as a driver. Since you are only 15, you still have a limited amount of driving experience. I'm 24 yrs old, and when I think back, I would have killed myself if I ever got a hold of a bike as a teen. If your dad has confidence in your abilities as a driver, then he shouldn't have too much of a problem with you riding. Maybe the deal maker would be to sign up for the MSF course. That would really help out in saying that you're a competent rider.
I'm afraid it's gonna be an uphill battle my friend. You absolutely have to show to your dad that you aren't going to kill yourself on a bike. I avoid at least one car every two weeks from turning out in front of me! Cars just don't notice bikes. Your dad probably knows this also. When people talk about motorcycles being dangerous, it's because THEY REALLY ARE! Not usually the rider, but the idiots around the rider.
Good luck, take the MSF course, and show your dad you're responsible!

I know this is off topic but i see everyone talking about getting aftermarket exhausts, i have heard of ppl drilling out the 4 holes in the stock ones to make the same sound as a muzzy pretty much you know anything about this ?

yep convincing was the hardest part , i got a zx6r when i turned 16 and had no experience on traffic. But u should be able to know traffic when sitting passenger side of a car? lol i mean thats how i learned about like "right of way" etc. Yep and MSF kicks ***
if i hadn't taken the course i woulda probably broke the bike before i took it out on the street (didn't even know what the **** stalling the bike was etc. LOL) Damn was it just me or did i find MSF courses really fun? btw i took mine at cerritos college they have discounts for people under 18 or was it 21? but its located in california.

Really cool man your making me excited to get one . I understand what your saying though by sitting in a passenger seat of a car you do see how traffic works and that should be a plus into convincing him lol. What do you mainly do while taking MSF courses and do they have an age requirement?
You can drill out the baffles on your mufflers, and of course it will be louder. I don't think it'll sound like a muzzie though. Just know that anytime you modify the exhaust on any bike, you will most likely have to rejet the carbs to compensate the lower backpressure.

Taking the MSF course basically takes care of your DMV test. When you complete the MSF course, you will get a card to take down to the DMV. The card will automatically get you your license. You can fail the MSF course though, so you have to do a good job on the course.
I'm actually surprised Alabama would let a sixteen year old get a motorcycle endorsement. In a lot of states you have to be 18.
In New York, the course is 3 days. They teach you about a motorcycle, how to handle it and how to ride defensive. That is the thing you need to tell your dad. Let him know that you want to be a responsible rider and you want to take the MSF course to teach you how to ride defensively around other motorist.Go to him w/ the information. Check out the MSF course in your area. Go to him as an adult if you want to be treated as an adult, ya know what I mean. The 250 is a great starter bike, and cheap on insurance too.
