out of gas?
So I got my real plates today and think to myself you are no longer a noob. 100 yards after putting them on Im at a stop light and the bike dies. I crank and crank and it would not fire. And of course the light turns green and Im causing a back up. I turn the choke on and still nothing. Finally after 20-30 seconds it fired and I nail the gas. I go 1/2 mile down the road and pull off. For that 1/2 mile or so it runs fine. Then I start thinking gas so I hit res and go to the nearest station. I takes 3.6 to fill it up so i would have had 1.2 or so left. Is that to soon to run out? It ran fine the whole way home so thats the only thing I can think of that would have made it die. It was also on flat ground if that matters. Its an 07 with 425 miles on it. Next time it happens I will remember to switch the gas first instead of looking like a fool.
I haven't run out of gass yet but I have ran the reserve dry after putting only a little gas in the bike. Maybe while you were fighting to get it started some gass found its way back into the full petcock setting, giving you the half mile. After filling up with gass, you set the petcock back to the ON setting right?

Do we even have a low fuel light?
Do we even have a low fuel light?

But the bottle in the trunk works great, I used to commute 110 miles everyday. I would always be trying to get every oz out of a tank of gas and would run out sometimes. Therefore, when I did I just reached back and poured in the 16oz bottle from the trunk and I was on my way.

Hmmm I ran completely out of gas fri night about 10 ft from the pump. I had switched to reserve about 20 miles back and knew I was pushing it. Where we live you have to be careful where you get gas because a lot of it contains water so I always go to one particular station if I can.
Anyway, I have never ran that low, never tracked my mileage and always just top off whenever.
Aparently I dont know how to fill the tank all the way *rolls eyes* because it only took 2.90 gal before I was to the bottom of the neck opening. Im guessing I need to look closer and see if theres another mark to go by, I have filled it too full and that was a bad thing. Unfortunately I wasnt paying attention to how much I put in at the time or I could have actually figured it out then.
You need to practice hitting the reserve while moving its quite easy to do at the first sputter.

At least you did not have undertail pipes without heat shields then! A good idea though. Wait, you had an R1, oops.

I am taking the 7 out to Ca speedway at the end of September, YEA!
GRRRRRR!!! just happened again and with a full tank of gas. Sitting at a stop light and it just died. Started right back up this time but now Im starting to get woried. The engine was fully warmed up both times. Outside temp was upper 70s and both times on flat ground. Both times it just died with no warning. No ruff running for a few seconds or a lack of power leading up to the light. Anyone got a guess what could be causing it?
