Oil Light Turns on when Stopping...
Hello KF,
I was riding my bike today and I noticed that as soon as I slowed down at a stop light that the oil light turned on for a few seconds, then when I took off it turns off...the oil light seemed to go on everytime I came to a hard stop.
Can Someone help me out here?
Thanks!

It has also happened to me before. (a few times) I suppose the location of the oil sump on the 250's engine must not be in a great location. Making sure that the oil level is close to the top of the sight glass (with the bike on centerstand of course) makes a big difference. Our 250's hold very little oil as it is. The only times I recall the light coming on during hard stops has been when the oil level was just below the sight glass's middle level area.

Do you do a lot of highway traveling? These bikes suck up oil on longer highway rides. Allthough mine hasn't used any oil yet on 55-60mph cruising.

I am curious to know as to why to the oil consumption? Mileage? Factory issue? What is the normal compression test numbers? Although I do not have an EX, an engine is just that, an Engine.

Mostly at high rpms the oil mists and ends up in the bottom of the airbox through the crankcase vent, but...
Its been said that a "factory break in" on a 250 will cause more oil consumption at high rpm because the rings never got a chance to seat at those rpms during break in.
I have had many MC friends recommend this break in, Ive done it on my new Mitsubishi but I buy salvage bikes so I never get to break them in. http://mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
My bike was salvaged at 100 miles but the guy that bought it ran the balance of the factory break in, so I wouldnt be a good test subject. For me it varies as to whether I use any oil or not I dont know it doesnt have any rhyme or reason. The Katana uses a little oil too but then it holdsaround 4 qts of oil so a half quart is no biggie.
But running half quart low on a 250 is a death sentence. Going through a half quart topping it off regularly is normal.
Just check the oil regularly and add as needed and the engine will last a very long time.
