Just a quick update. We got the bike running decently this afternoon. I can say one thing, I know how disassemble about 75% of the bike in 15min or less now...lol. Think I learned more about carberators this weekend that i have in the past 36 years on this earth..ha.

The carbs were completely yellow on the inside and one of the floats was stuck badly. Got all that figured out and put back together after 3 tries. Now we are just having some minor idleing issues that we will work on later, but all in all the bike is running.

Man it's hard being right all the time! J/K.

I think doing a carb sync would help smooth out your rough idling.

That is one of the only things we havent done, was trying to figure out where we can get a vaccum gauge.

I would invest in a decent synchronizer tool. Something like this: http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/tools/syncpro/

They cost a bit, but if you do your own work, it comes in handy.

Another question, if the bike is running super rich, i mean, if you place a paper towel over the exhaust pipe you can see unburned fuel, how can you lean the bike out?

thanks,
Mike

Did you clean the jets? Floats set properly?

Here is a good page on tuning your carbs: http://www.factorypro.com/tech_tunin...m_engines.html

As far as I can tell, yes, we pulled everthing out of the carbs and cleaned. As for the Float Height, we used a small ruler to set them to 17mm setting at a 25 degree angle. We got that info from cyclepedia.com.

I was thinking about getting a carb rebuild kit before I tear that thing apart again and just starting fresh. If you know of a good place to get one, that would be great. The one I found was on ebay for 40.00 for 2 carbs.

Ok, got her running and idleing well now, but have ran into a new problem. Installed a Carb rebuild kit on both carbs and it smoothed a lot of things out, but now when you rev her up she dies instead of going back to idle.

any ideas?

Too rich, or idle set too low. Try leaning out the idle air mixture screws.
