Default Ninja 250R World

Good Morning everyone,

I just became a member of the 250R club tonight. I normally ride a 2005 ZZR600, but I found a great deal on a 2001 250R and I just couldnt pass it up. Bike has 2300 miles and on and has been setup for a while. But for 1000.00, I couldnt pass it up. I have only rode the 250 a brief time in the past, and it was such a fun ride, i just had to get my hands on one.

Well, anyway, I know this thing is going to need a bit of work, but my main question is: Why am i leaking gas from the right side bowl at idle speeds? We got her running, a bit rough, but running tonight and when she is idling, fuel is dripping pretty regularly from the right side bowl when the bike is idling at 2K or so, if you up the throttle, it stops.

Any help would be greatly appreciated before I tear *** deep into this thing..lol,

Thank,
CrioGeniC

Will post some pix in the morning.

Float level maladjustment or worn float needle would be my opinion. Either way, that would be an easy fix. You'll have a lot of fun on the 250! Remember, it's not the size that counts! lol

J/K... I'm going to have to agree with Mark on this one. How do you like your ZZR? I've been looking at one and thinking of buying it. (yes, now all the Ninja guys are going to start flaming me, but that's okay). Just wanted your thoughts on it.

I have had the ZZR since May of this year. I started out on a GS500 last year. It was a big step up in HP from the 500 to 600, but that ZZR is a blast to ride. Only recently, I have started having some troubles with my right hand going numb on longer rides. I just read in the ZZR600 forum that someone put a set of Heli bars on theirs and it takes a lot of the pressure off the wrists, so I may try that. Other than that, the ZZR is a great bike over all and a whole lot better on insurance than the new ZX6Rs.

Thanks for the info on the carbs, I plan on starting the tear down in a few hours and get those carbs cleaned up really well. btw, what is good to use to clean the carbs once I have them off the bike.

Thanks again,
Crio

You just need carb cleaner (some of those fuzzy pipe cleaners too if you have any handy.) and compressed air. It's important to use compressed air to blow through passages.

I noticed that the footpegs are a lot lower on the ZZR than on the ZX... do you ever have any problems with scraping them? Or are the far enough back that you don't have to worry about that? Can you get the front end up with a power on, or do you have to clutch it up? What kind of gas mileage are you getting?

Im a 2wheels on the ground type of guy, so I am not really into the whole wheelie thing. I have never scraped the pegs and I have laid that bike way over on some good twisties before.

Normally just commuting back and forth to work during the week, I average about 45mpg.
