breaking in the 250r

I didn't know about the breaking in period until after riding the bike for about a week . From about 300 to 500 miles i was running the bike at 5000 to 7000 rpm never red lined, highest I took the bike was 9000 rpm. I'm at 800 miles now at what engine speed should I run the bike? should I stay with the breaking in speed of 6000 rpm or is it okay to allow the bike to go higher?

The part about the oil change at 20 miles is pretty interesting. As far as the Break in advice, I guess up to 10% more performance would be nice. It's hard to go against the manual for me for some reason.

has anyone tried this metod? I really haven't noticed any problems from running the engine higher and it still runs great at 6000 hitting around 52mph in 6th gear at 6000.

RE: breaking in the 250r

Actually, I am following Mototune's advice (slightly modified since I only found the info once I already had just over 150 miles on it). After reading his recommendations, I took it to a very empty highway and did as he suggested. I have changed the oil and now rev it up to 9000-10,000+ rpm's in normal riding.

I have had many different smaller engines in various pieces of equipment and they worked long lives without some low rev break-in. Generators, tractors, ATV's, etc..all gave me great service for hundreds of hours without any slow speed break-in. So I figured I would see how the 250 responded. After all, this is not a $15k Ducati.

Additionally when I asked the dealer, who I know personally, about break-in (when I picked up the bike, before I read the manual and before I saw the sticker on the instruments) he said to just avoid very high revs and not to cruise at highway speeds for long periods for the first 1000 miles. Otherwise, he said ride it normally.

Thx for the info. I tired taking it on the highway here in AZ the speed limit is 65 though every one goes 70 to 75 mph. got it up to 9000 following traffic sometimes passing it and the bike did great, very smooth riding it was only like a 7 minute ride. Though technically I've only got 150 miles to finish my breakin
