It's obviously just a question of supply and demand. As we all learned in Economics 101,i f the demand is high, as it is for this particular model and the supply is low, as it appears to be at this time with dealers only getting one or two bikes, then of course the dealers are going to ask more than if the reverse were true i.e high supply and low demand. Not to defend the dealers, but for someone to say that the dealers are "raping" us is a bit over the top. If someone wants to pay more for a bike in order to get what they want, it is their choice and noone has been "raped" since it is an agreement between two parties who have free choice to do as they please. Noone is forcing anyone to do anything.
Each of us can decide how much it is worth to get the 250R now. If you think it's too much at this time, don't buy it, but you may have to wait a bit to get it at the price you want and you take the chance(although slight) that you may not have much choice about color at a later time. That's up to you.
Would I like to get it as cheaply as possible? Of course. Am I willing to forego the chance to buy the green one that just came in to the dealership today to maybe save a couple of hundred bucks at some unknown future date? No. Personally, I am willing to pay the $4200(OTD) that the dealer wants and I will be happily riding my new green Ninja tomorrow. That isn't rape, that is heaven.

i've been telling other riders that i know that i plan on buying a ninja 250 and it seems like they all say that i'll outgrow it in a couple of months. Is this true? they suggest that i start on a 600 but i tell them that i dont feel that comfortable doing so... what do u guys recommend?
