Scottish West coast

Hi all just joined. Bought an old 93 KLE 500 to fix up at weekends, why....cos I checked out everything available in the adventure market in Northern Scotland and thought this bike looked the part, and I'm a 55 year old ex LGV mechanic and wanted something to get me into the garden shed at weekends . I know they have a poor seat and brakes reputation...(or so Ive read) but i just could'nt resist the butch looks, commanding riding position, and middleweight engine, there also seems to be a lot of used spares on Ebay so I dove in.

Welcome, Bark. Keep us updated on the fixer-upper. Let us know if we can help. Pics are always welcomed, too. (Your bike, or your beautiful countryside.)
Gear up; stay safe.

Congrats on the ride. A KLR 500 correct? Enjoy your fix time. Some good things to feel comfy about knowing that you were the one who maintained it. Have you purchased the factory manual yet for this ride? I still have the factory supplemental for the '87-93 500 and 650 only and not the base manual. If any questions, I may be of some assistance.

Welcome to KF

Thanks for the welcome guys, Ive got the carbs and fuel tap removed for cleaning at the mo, both the carbs are flooding in all tap positions , the tap is vacuum controlled and the carbs are flooding even with engine off. I have removed the tank for flushing as its got a LOT of fine red dust in it from 18 years of fuelling and i suspect its worked its way into the float chambers and is affecting the needle valves and the vacuum tap. cheers
