i dont know about any querks about it. i got mine when it was about 9000 miles on it. about swapping parts i kept mine stock except the full muzzy exhaust. so i dont know a whole lot about that either. what i can tell you is the difference between the models. the c model is more of a box than round. just the earlier model of the ninja. the d model is next. one the fastest engines at that time. it is also a little more rounder than the c but not like the newer bikes. the e model is just the latest model at that time and is still around. i believe you can swap the rear section of the bikes the upper fairings are different on the two. so i know those dont swap.

i wanted to do the same thing. the 2001 zx-6r subframe does the trick. i just never got around to modifying it. i actually bought all of the subframe, then i bought my 06 636, so i didnt mess the the older bike. i actually sold it to one of my friends. if you are interested i will sell you the 01 subframe and the seats and cowling and everything. just pm if your interested in it. it will look like this bike in the pic if you do it right. the frame doesnt just bolt right on you need to make a bracket for it as well as your brake fluid resovoir and exhaust canister. you will also need to find a place to put your overflow tank for your radiator. it will be a little bit of work but WILL look bad @ss when you are done. like i said if your interested just let me know.
