More than likely analog guages - don't think the 500R has gone very high tech over the years!

Good luck - and if its anything like a Kawi Concours - you should have no problem! My dad's went on him when he was at Deals Gap last year, he got it fixed when he got home.

Fixed the speedo & odometer. It was a loose cable coming out of the bottom of the speedometer. After reading all suggestions here and googling, I went and looked very carefully under the top faring, and there it was - the cable coming out of the speedometer was loose. I put the cable back in the slot, tightened the nut and it started working.
But now I think I may have been duped about the mileage, and the cable was kept loose intentionally by the previous owner. Of course,I have no way to prove it now. Damn, can't they make these things more tamper-proof like they do in cars ?
And yes it's an analog gauge with the speedo cable going to the front wheel. Pretty primitive, I'd say.

Glad you got it fixed. You know someone somehow would figure a way to beat the system sooner or later. they always do.

i have had the same problem, i was riding one day and was like damn my speedometer is broke and thought i would hafta pay to get it fix, but i pulled over and looked under as you did and low and behold it had been loose and came out. but that is a way to scam milage for tools out there. mine comes loose occassionaly cause i can only get it hand tight, im too lazy to take off the plastics to tighten anymore
