New Member w/ KLX250 - This place Rocks

Greetings,
I'd been looking around for a good condition used dirt bike for a month or so late this summer when along comes this '06 KLX250. Didn't know anything about them. I knew I wanted a 250-class sized bike for riding trails with my bro and his buddy (they're on XR250s). Looked at Hondas, Yamis, some Suzis, and a few others. Street legal would be a great bonus, but it had to be trail worthy. It's gotta climb. Everything I was finding was either too much $$$ or beat up POS or just not right. Then along comes the KLX for sale by an experienced 81-yr young fella just a mile from my house. It's darn clean and the price is right so now she's got a new home. It's all stock so now the mods begin. And lo and behold she's got quite a following and it looks like this forum is about the best place around to learn from those who've been there and done it...and done it right.

My history involves only a few days on borrowed dirt bikes until now. Ya, I rode the heck out of the three-wheelers on the farm and picked up a quad last year. And from age 15 to past 25 I rode the hell out of a couple street bikes including a 1970's Suzi GT380 (3-cyl 2-stroker with Ram Air) and an '83 Kawi LTD750. Rode the Kawi for many years. Even daily, every day, for over a year straight commuting to school and work in eastern Idaho, even in the snow, after blowing the motor on my old car while in college and couldn't afford a replacement car. Even tho they were street bikes, they spent many miles off pavement. Summertime meant loading on the gear and going for long-weekend rides and campouts. Put on one 22-mile ride in less than 11 minutes. All that and only a couple very minor dives at less than 10 mph.

So after many years away from the motorcycle, it's time to get back on and ride. :D

Cheers,
IDRIDR

Welcome! It's a really nice bike, especially after a couple of modifications.

Welcome to KF. Congrats on the new ride. I do not have a klx in my possession, but I still have the manual for the GT. lol Enjoy your read time.

Dragone...you got the manual for the GT? Really? That's great. I really miss that 380. We had a lot of fun miles together.
I saw that our local cycle salvage shop sold a nicely restored GT750 recently on ebay. Came close to pushing the 'bid' button.
Cheers

Welcome, ID. You came to the right place. Glad to hear you're a "proud papa" of a KLX.
Gear up; stay safe.
