Welcome to the forums. I would say first go through the Motorcycle Safety course and get your license that way. They teach you what you need to know and how to be safe on the roads. Then get a bike that fits your style and your budget.

That's the best way to learn. I tell everyone to take the safety coures first. Cause teaching yourself could be very dangerous and expensive. Exspecially if you plan to buy a new bike for your first bike. Alittle advise, buy used for your first bike. That way if you go down, you won't feel as bad damaging the bike unlike a new. First off, welcome to the forums! Secondly, I agree with Remo and Mad Kaw, take a safety course. I took one this past April and it was excellent. I had a lot of fun and learned so much. I bought a 1994 Ninja 500 for my first bike. The 500 is the perfect fit for me. I also considered a small cruiser style bike as well, but when you compared the prices and weight, there were some big differences. Go out take a look at bikes, sit on some, see what you are comfortable on.

Good luck, and keep us posted!
