Talking Misfire over 3000 revs

Hi, new to the site so hi to everyone, looking for some advise, just purchased a zzr600, 1990' starts fine however won't rev above 3000 then misfires, when left ticking over you can attempt to rev and does the same again, I have had the plugs out and cleaned and checked the air filter element, looks like its had better days as half is missing? Am going to put new plugs and filter to see if that would help, just looking for further advise, bike has been unused for around 6 months
Cheers Ken

Welcome to KF

Knowing that you have a deteriorated filter, a thorough carb cleaning and float checks would be recommended with the placement of a new air filter.

Will do, there's only half of the filter left, there wasn't any in the bottom of the air box so it could be anywhere? Will update in a few days as still recovering
Thanks for replying, Ken

Check the charge on your battery and the health of your charging system.

I think it fuel related, new plugs and filter done, starts ok, tick over lumpy, once warm it will rev to around 4000, on the second rev it just dies a death, fairly sure it's fuel , looking for any advise on carb removal, I had a quick look and my only concern was the throttle cable, awaiting workshop manual arriving but inpatients getting the better of me, any advise would be welcome
Regards Ken

Hi , thanks for all the advise, stripped down carbs today, all were full of rusty jelly and all jets blocked, cleaned and reassembled , fired up a treat, time to clean up and get it back on the road, thanks again to all who replied
