Just bought new 09 250R
 

Anyone got any tips on how to break it in this is my first bike getting it today. Anything i need to know?

got my 250 couple months ago...make sure you read that manual..get your 600 mile oil change...and dont do anything you dont feel comfortable, dont let yoru friends try to push you to do dumb ****, thats the way to wreck...other than that have fun and enjoy the ride and congrats on the new bike

To book. First 500 under 4000RPM. Oil change at 600. Then under 6000 RPM until you hit 1000 miles. BY BOOK.

Gear up; stay safe. Pay attention to what the bike "tells you."

THis has always worked for me:

First 100 miles, 1/4 throttle and maximum 5K rpm. Stop for a 5 minute cool down every 20 minutes.

Add 1,000 revs and a little bit more throttle every hundred miles up to 600 miles. After that, use very short bursts (10 seconds to start with) of full throttle, and from there up to 1,000 miles gradually increase the length of the bursts.

Vary the revs throughout the break in as much as possible, and use the gears a lot. Keep the revs above 3K so that the motor doesn't bog - 3.5K in the top two gears. Don't forget the 600 mile oil change.

I've kept bikes for 100,000 miles without ever stripping the motor or needing to add oil between services. Record was 120K on an XJ900.

Book is too gentle. It can leave the motor a bit tighter than it needs to be. The very hard break in that some people recommend is too rough. Book is also a standard text that they apply to every model in the range. It's safe, but not good.

the very first time you start the bike peg the rev limiter for atleast 5 seconds.

Wouldn't advise that. Engine will already have been run up anyway both post assembly and at PDI.
