I also recommend the MSF, since you have no experience. They teach you all about balance, clutch friction points, and then the more advanced stuff.

It also (in Texas, anyway) makes it a LOT easier to get the "M" endorsement added to your license. If you don't take the MSF here, you have to take the driving test at the DMV, which means making an appointment, arranging for a licensed rider to deliver your bike to the dmv, and someone to drive the chase vehicle while you ride ahead of it and get evaluated by a state employee. That sounded like WAY more of a pain in the tookus than I wanted to deal with, so I just plunked down my MSF certification, took the written test, and got my 'M'. MUCH easier.

Good luck, be careful and use common sense as well as a very self-protective attitude toward riding. There's nothing wrong with assuming that all cars around you are out to get you....it's a mentality that may keep you alive.
