Stop IN!!
Hey everyone. I'm new to this site of course. I've always loved bikes and always wanted one. For some reason I've just been so drawn to the kawasaki. My question to all the vets I guess is, where do I want to start out at. I'm looking to getting a used bike to start off with spring/summer of 07 and need advice. I will however taking the MSF courses before I make any purchase at all. Help me out ladies and gents, it'll be very appreciated.

RE: Stop IN!!
only problem with getting a 250 or a 500, is that if you like to go fast in a car, then once you learn how to ride well, the 250 or 500 just wont do it for you, i owned a 250 before my 636, and the first month i loved the hell out of the 250, but then it just felt like riding it wasnt as fun anymore, and that i needed something bigger, keep in mind tho i am 6 foot and 200 pounds...im not telling you to jump into a 6r or anything, but a zzr600, or a ninja 650, the 500 would be good, but really if youre kinda egotistical, jump into something bigger and take it slow, take the msf course, and break in the bike like the manufacturer says, under 4k, just my opinion, im only saying this cause when i got the 250 everyone told me exactly what im telling you now....good luck finding a bike

^^^ what they said one thing i always tell new riders is to respect the bike once you desrespec it it will throw you off. learning comes with time once you learn how to tame it then you will be able to make her do anything you want but it all comes with time. i used to teach the MSF course for years and ive seen biker vets who couldnt pass the final test w/o hitting at least 8-12 cones and those who were novice and learned quick thats where old habbits can be bad but since you are just starting you will do good ,,, good luck to you and welcome to KF.....

Do not worry about horsepower when looking for a ride. You need to feel comfy with the ride in order to be safe, fast, and therefore being able to enjoy it. Good luck.

RE: Stop IN!!
Thanks so much for all the good replies. I was going ask with me being the size I am what to start of with. I'm 6'2 200lbs, pretty solid dude. I do know you have to respect whatever bike you ride on for real. You can't fear them. I know I have to take my written permit exam first then the MSF courses. My boss owns a couple of harleys and thats what he told me I should do. Should I start out with a used 600 maybe, after the courses. Like a 98 or 97?
