complete and utter newb!
 

hey guys.

i have just recently aquired an interest in bikes. and was told that kawasakis are one of the best.
that and i have had my mind set on a ninja since i first saw one when i was 12.

so as it is, i am a complete noob to bikes, kawasaki, and riding in general.
so any tips, hints, general pieces of advice, tutorials on how to ride a bike....anything else,
would be helpful in any way possible

Welcome to KF. First I would suggest gettin some gear. A helmet, gloves, and jacket. Then I think it's a good idea to take the MSF course.

cant get the 250
already got my heart set on the zx6r or the 636
i have read all about the msf course and i signed up to take it in the spring. its too late in the season and i just dont have the money right now.

any advice for a first time rider?

Welcome to the KF family... I'd have to say chances are you have found the home you were looking for. As far as a bike, a Kawasaki is a GREAT idea, but ignore Deej... He just wants to add you to his list of moler minions. You'd no doubt find a 636 cheaper. I like buying new vehicles though, which is why I'm getting an '07 or an '08. Spend the money to get some good quality gear, because when it comes right down to it, the gear is the only thing between you and the road. Good to hear that you are taking the MSF course, that's one less speech I need my soap box for. Ride carefully, don't overdue it and wreck trying to be a hero. It takes time and practice to develop the skills you will need.Always keep your head on a swivel, because most people in cars don't look out for bikes. I forget who said it, so I can't quote them, but somebody on here once said "You will be fine if you assume everybody else on the road is trying to kill you." Good words to live by.

i've been looking at gear lately,
would you guys recommend getting firsthand or secondhand stuff.
i mean, secondhand is cheaper, but what if it has been dropped or torn and sewn back together?
i heard you were suppose to get a new helmet once it drops at all. like even a little crack could kill ya...in the helmet...that is.
is Icon a good brand? or would Fox be better?

again, any tips on actual riding? i mean, i drive a stick. so i know the clutch and downshifting...etc.
but, its mostly in your hands on a bike...
is it much different?
