from California... but don't hold it against me...

I just joined this forum recently because I got a KLX300SM. While I've owned Yamahas, Hondas, and a Suzuki (DRZ400SM) this is my FIRST Kawasaki. :)

When you get down to it, the joy of riding is the same no matter what bike you're on. Although it's been only a week, the bike is already being modified to suit my uses. It needed to be lowered it so my stumpy legs would reach the ground. I dropped the forks up to the bottoms of the bars and dropped the rear swing arm by spinning the rear shock lockrings up and adding a set of Koubalinks. The bike corners much better with a lowered center of gravity. Also got rid of the stock exhaust. That dropped 5 pounds of topheavy weight off the bike and woke up the engine.

Thanks, :)

I put a ghetto crate on it to use it as a utility work vehicle to make local service calls. Also building a quiet insert for that crazy loud exhaust. It was the only one I could find that had a place to put the O2 sensor. There are major disruptions in manufacturing pipelines for a wide variety of products and I believe it is only going to get worse as things break down even more. I wasn't going to buy another bike for a few more years to replace the Grom, but the unavailability of manufactured goods prompted me to move up the buying schedule so as to get one while I still could.

The problem was actually FINDING one in stock. Of three Kawasaki dealerships, two had NONE, and one really big dealer showed three online, however when I went there they had only ONE. So I bought it on the spot for $7,306 plus 9.5% State Sales Tax. $8,000 otd. My DRZSM was $6,700 otd 14 years ago and they're just under $10k here now.

wow! The "yet" will be just that for awhile longer. lol
Yes, that exhaust can just looks LOUD. The Delkevic 8" SS was it?
True, although I am not into the ghetto crate for a nice ride like yours. Ya gotta do what ya gotta feel that is right although I prefer a backpack of some type for my "utility" jobs. That and my ninjas do not have a rack to hold stuff.

I'm certain 300's are cheaper outside the state much closer to the national $5,999 MSRP.

Yes, it's the Delkevic 8". I don't like that style of can at all, but it was all I could find as aftermarket exhausts are "illegal" in California. It can be modified in a variety of ways so it'll definitely get worked over! The crate is for carrying tools and material to heavy for a backpack. It's a necessary concession to be able to use the bike to make money. I put 11,000 miles on my Grom using it on the job for two years.
