250 question
Hello, I'm new to riding and I have a question. I just taking my MSF course and passed. I've been practicing on a 250 and I want this to be my first bike. Once I become proficient, I then want to move up to a 636. I really don't want to break the bank on my first bike, being that I may only keep it for about a year and more than likely I will have a spill or two. But yet, I want somthing realiable. I know someone who is selling a 1989 kawasaki with about 6000 miles on it. It's in pretty good condition, but it does have some hesistation above 9000 rpm. My question is if I can get a good deal on it, should i purchase it and what would be considered a good deal?
Also, what would cause that hesistation?
thanks

RE: 250 question
First of all, welcome to the forums! Secondly congrats on taking and passing the MSF. The 250 is a great bike to start out on and if you can get one in good shape for a fair price - that is great!! I am not sure about the hesitation problem though.
But keep us posted on what you get and ride safe!!!!

RE: 250 question
Sure. I find, around here anyways, that the 250's and 500's stay in relatively good condition because people usually start out on them and only drive them for a year or two. Most of them aren't abused, stunted or raced because they aren't seen as capable of doing that stuff. But they usually all have been dropped (mine was dropped a couple of times by the previous owner and his girlfriend, heck, I even dropped it once [:@]) I bought a 94 500 and it is in excellent condition. The only thing that I have had to do to it was change the oil. The tires on it will last me the rest of the year and probably into next season.
Besides, if you're only going to keep it for a year, buying an older one would be better than spending the money to buy new!

RE: 250 question
hey soulrider, welcome to the family. congrats on passing the safety course and joining the world of two wheels. don't know much about the 250's or the 500. but what ever bike you get always gear up. there are three rules of riding. 1) never ride above your head. 2) everyone falls, and 3) everyone falls..... ride safe and gear up.......

RE: 250 question
Welcome to the forums! Your off to the right start already...you've taken the MSF course, your practicing on a bike that you want to be your first, and sounds like your very responsible when riding.
As far as the 89 goes...if it only has 6000 miles on it, that's a good find. My 05 that I bought in May already has over 5100 miles on it!!
