Who buys a 450???

when does someone decide to step up to a 450? I've been riding my kdx200 for years now and am looking to upgrade from old faithful at this time. Although nervous about just what to buy, i have to say that that new klx450 is painfully tempting. I've never rode a bike that size but wonder when does someone decide to spend the $7300 even though they don't know if they'll like the bike? Can anyone help??

RE: Who buys a 450???

i've been riding a '91 kdx200 for a long time now. i like the 2 stroke rip but i often find myself riding the forest like i'm on a motox track(dangerous). i feel pressure to have to keep the rpms up for fear of fouling a plug, not to mention keeping up the revs is sort of how you have to do it with a kdx. according to my friends, i tend to ride the kdx real hard. i don't like the suspension on the kdx at all, way too soft for me at 37 yrs, 5'8", 185lbs. after i go riding, for a week or so, my body feels as though i had a car crash. my growing up experience has always been motox in the northeast riding 2 strokes 125's + 250's. i live in charleston, SC now and only plan to ride the state forest(s). mostly moderate to easy riding. i've thought long and hard about the 250f, klx300, etc. i'm no longer interested in hammering down the trails, but i do want the ability to grow into a bike and even the idea of learning to manuever a big bike sounds exciting. i absolutely love to ride and i know i need to slow it down out there. i'm thinking the 450r will force me to tone it down a bit. what are your thoughts?

negative, negative, negative.

if your riding a kdx 200 now and you as well as all your friends are telling you that your to hard on it, that tells me that you are pushing the bike to go much harder, much faster, and the ideaof you stepping up to a bigger bore bike such as the klx450r
is in my opinion a flaud concept, simply because I don't believe you can step up to go slower. Most people I know
step up to go faster. But the bigger bore bikes that are dezined for the woods such as (klx450r, klx300r, ktm300, well alot of ktm's, crf450x, crf250xas well as other bikes) not only have that big motor, there suspension has also been tweeked so that they can go faster in that enviornment. You say you your no longer interested in hammering down the trail anymore
but anything bigger and badder than that 200 will ultimatly force you to go faster, wether you want to or not, simply
because all of the components and elements will be in place for you to go faster.

I'm just going off my own experience as well as my friends. We race the enduro curcuit out here in california and I started riding a klx300r and raced that for 3 yrs before I decided its time to step it up, so I wieghed my options and ended up with what I believe to be the ultimate woods bike and thats the KTM 300mxc. Infanatly better than the KLX300r in every way.

Now I'm able to stay on my minute (for the most part), but basically it boils down to better suspension, better motor and better gearing and all this equals =FASTER
