2001 KLX 300 Jumps out of neutral
Hi everyone,
I have a 2001 KLX300. I bought it about a year ago from it's second owner, a guy who had it for years but hardly rode it because it was difficult to start. I fixed the carb issues and over the last year or so I have had a blast riding this bike. Today something new happened. The bike runs great, I stop, get off the bike, put down the kickstand keeping the bike running in neutral and it shifts into gear on it's own. I have never run into this before. Is it a clutch issue. or maybe a shift star issue? It rides fine and goes through the gears fine. Just when I put it in neutral and let it sit it jumps into gear. Let me know if you have any insight. Thank you.

Maybe look in a manual and see where the spring set up is for the shifter and see if it can be replaced. Most bikes have a spring set up that holds the shifter in place. No good reason to slip into gear from neutral. Worth a look.
