KLX 300 valve wear

My son has been riding a 2004 KLX 300R. A good ol bike. The last 2 times I checked valve clearance, the left intake has tightened up to the minimum spec. All other valve gaps have not changed. About 2000 miles of dirt riding between valve checks. When reading old forum posts, I see that the older 90's and early 2000 KLX300's had a reputation of eating intake valves. While I have the head off, I want to replace the intakes. Question is - Has Kawasaki made improvements to the OEM valves - so they will last? Or is there an aftermarket intake made which will last? Are the intakes on newer 300s interchangeable with the older bikes ?

Advice & recommendation welcomed. Thanks

Part numbers don't match up on the early KLX300 to the new KLX300. Web Cams lists stainless Kibble White valves for the KLX300 click here Another possible source for information and possibly valves would be B&B Cycle Restoration, who make the big bores for the KLX. click here Bill may know about the valve situation and how to deal with it.
