KLX 125 Mods Done.

I did the basic mods on my sons KLX yesterday. I cut a large hole in the air box lid (I may just use a pod filter instead of the whole air box thing) and adjusted the carb to 2 turns out instead of the factory setting of 1/4 out (Sheesh....no wonder it ran lean). Now it runs good and no more popping and backfiring. An exhaust system is next on order. From what I can tell so far it's a great bike for a (very timid) 13 year old with no motorcycle experience but for anyone else, 7 horse, come on. My five year old daughter has a 50c.c. Chinese knock off that will run circles around the little KLX. I think that is very sad. I still like it though and enjoy poopin around the yard and nice slow trails. It's easy to control and with the mods easy to start. With a stiffer suspention and a few hundred in muffler/carb parts this could be a good ALL AROUND beginner bike. BTW it's the 125L model (a little taller...bigger wheels). Just my two cents on a $3000 (out the door) kids motorcycle.

Ryan.

RE: KLX 125 Mods Done.

I checked the plug on the baby KLX today and it is running rich. Plug was sooty black with a little white near the electrode. I'm at two turns out now and would not recommend going that far. When I get it dialed in (stock exhaust, air box mod, stock jetting) I will post where the sweet spot is for my elevation (2000 ft.). Still starts with one kick now, gotta love that.

almost all 4stroke dirtbikes have a float carb. the screw you turn is either at the very bottom of the carb or at the bottom but sticking out the side. it is also usually the largest screw.
