wierd sound during load

hi guys

Lately a new noise has been showing up, it shows up after 10-15 mins of riding when the engine is properly warmed up.

it only comes up during load (accelerating or maintaining speed)
goes away when clutch is pulled (will doubble check tomorrow)
goes away when i release throttle

it sounds like stiring thin sauce in a sauce pot with whisker
a close sound i could find is this at 9:30

Try lubing the chain?

I love the description. How hard did you look to find that sound at 9:30?

peabrain 09-21-2016 03:40 AM

chain has been lubed

the sound i remembered sounding like doing lathe stuff only took me about 3 mins to find

High pitched noise may be coming from metal to metal contact. You are going to have to try and localize the source-sux but that;s the only help I can offer from my keyboard.

the sound is coming from the front or right side of the engine during load after it has warmed fully up after about 10 minutes

Don't forget to check the oil.

peabrain 09-21-2016 03:46 PM

the oil is about 2500km old and when in a upright position on a stand a few mins after riding the oil level is in the middle of the sight glass

The right side of the engine has the clutch, sometimes clutches make weird noises. The noise going away with the clutch pulled in would seems to indicate the clutch.

I had an Italian bike that made crazy clutch noises until that just went away one day.

I'd look at the clutch engagement settings and them, maybe, take a look at the clutch itself.

Are you sure this noise isn't normal? Sometimes it possible to suddenly pick out a noise from all the noises the bike makes and the fixate on it, but it's been there all along.

Also, have you changed anything recently? That's always the first place to check.

peabrain 09-21-2016 06:38 PM

nothing was changed before the sound appeared

i did change leavers this weekend and noticed that the clutch leaver on the case is always engaged, and no matter how loose i set the adjuster it does not have a "idle" point
also the adjuster has to go out almost 10mm before being tight enough for clutch to operate normal

dont know if that is normal hmm....

If the clutch cable is always tugging on the release arm(no freeplay) then it may be causing an issue with the throwout bearing on the pressure plate. Try and see if you can pinpoint the sound-is it loudest under the clutch cover?
