wich type of silicone to seal the stator wire ?
I had to remove the stator cover on my KLX 2013. My welder fixed it after i craked it in a crash!!!! . So now, i see in the service manual, that they are mentioning to put silicone around the stator wire that goes ttrough the stator cover. Wich type of silicone should i put? Construction silicone? gasket silicone? Thanks

Rtv type works fine. Available at any auto zone or kragen auto parts

If you have access to Permatex gasket products, I'd suggest either UltraBlack or UltraGrey. Clean the grommet/wires with some spray brake cleaner and then apply a dab on the harness and install. Let the RTV dry/cure overnight and no leaks.

I have access to ultragrey or ultrablack. Wich one is the best for this application? Ultrablack seem for high temp. Is the alternator cover considered high temp?

Doesn't matter-either will work perfectly. At this point, it's just window dressing as far as color.

Cool!! Thanks :-)

Nice, I'm glad you got it fixed. I'm Curious and would like to know what kind of weld (Tig, Mig) was used and the rod/wire that worked. This is good info!
Addendum- You all are AWESOME! I learn so much good stuff on here, THANKS! |
Special mig silicone to keep the splatter down. The tig silicone just flows... wait a minute there’s no welding going on in this thread! Wtf! |
His aluminum stator cover cracked and he had it welded smart ass Race Gass. Cast aluminum, very tricky.

I’ve cracked magneto covers before. There’s a two part product for aluminum that even sets/hardens when oil is present. I think it’s called aluminaseal. I’ve never tried to weld cast aluminum, I know it’s tricky requiring a lot of preheating. Sorry for the smart ass comment since the op asked about silicone sealer. A local fabricator by the name of Rob North (google his name he’s a English road racer that can fabricate some very cool stuff) who warned me welding a cast aluminum cyl head coolant spigot in place, the cast aluminum can seem to evaporate if your not careful. |
