Who likes shinko 244's?

Looking for new tires now that I've rejetted and cleaned the bike up. Looking for something that grips good on the road and will hook up on North Carolina forest service roads....lots of rocks, gravel and some mud. Anything else to look at?

I think you'll like the 244's. I'm halfway through my first set with another already waiting by the work bench. They are a great street dirt combo and the price is killer. I think the front 244 works better than the stock 605. I can't tell to much difference on the rear but it works fine in the dirt. I've punished these tires pretty hard in hard pack, gravel, big rocks and creek beds, water, wet pavement and mountain twisties. They are a pretty good tire. I can't vouch for the mud and quite honestly I try to avoid mud when ever possible.

I usually order them from RockyMountain, IIRC 82 bucks a set for the KLX. Not shabby.

Not a fan of the tread pattern. I use Duro Median HF903/904. Tread digs in and cleans out well for off road, including most clay encountered here in Ohio and the tires stick like glue on pavement. I've got about 40,000 miles over 14 years with them, mostly on the 650. Consider it an alternative.

The 244's are great tires. On dirt/gravel roads, the stock 605's would just lock up when trying to stop and were just horrible in general off-road. 244's are wearing well (although probably not as well as the 605's), and give great traction - I ride mostly woods single track over roots, logs, rocks and in mud, and they work very well, although I run them at 15PSI - much better traction with the lower pressure. Riding any distance on the road I would bump up the tire pressure to mid to high 20's or so, though. I only have a 10 minute ride on the road to the trails, so I don't bother - even with 15PSI they still handle well enough on the road.

I really like the rear! The front is not aggressive enough for me so I use the MT21 with it.

I would agree - the rear is pretty good, but a more aggressive front would be even better. My son said my front felt like it was washing out compared to his KLX250 - I forget what tire he has on the front, but it's more of a 'knobby' than the 244. I didn't really notice the difference, maybe I'm just used to it.

I can get through any terrain with the rear 244. The front would wash out on me and not stick during all the trail riding I do.
