What oil to use?

Just interested in knowing what engine oil other owners are using. Mineral or fully synthetic? 0/40? 10/40? 10/50?[sm=feedback.gif]

use 10w-40, what's listed in the owner's manual. just make sure it passses the required JASO-T903 standard posted in the manual for 4-stroke motorcycle oil. if you get oil that passes the JASO-T903 standards, you'll be just fine whatever the brand or blend. full synthetic is believed to be the best, but if you change your oil every 500 or even 200 miles, you're wasting your money buying it over dino or dino/syn. blend. If you want to spread out your oil change to like 2000 miles or so, full synthetic is your choice. As with anything, you'll pay a lot for brand names when it comes to oil. I used Castrol syn/blend in my KLX, $4/quart. However, there are some brands in which you'll pay up to $10/quart or so.

Regular off the shelf 10-40, typically Mobil clean 5000 as it is the easiest to find. I last changed it with a Castrol 10-40 w/out cleaning additives as they had one with and one without additives. I change it every 1000 miles, more or less about the time it starts to get dark in the window and when it starts to shift rough.

when you say "off the shelf" do you mean motorcycle oil or just any oil? because if you're not using specific motorcycle oil you will be after your engine seizes. To the original poster, you MUSTuse 4-stroke motorcycle oil as automobile oils aren't engineered for the very high temperatures inside a motorcyle engine.

I use Mobil 1 Racing 4T. http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...4T_10W-40.aspx

The Mobil 1 is readily available at my local Wal-mart. I would use Amsoil if I could find it. In addition to what I believe is superior protection from full synthetics, my wet clutch performs much smoother since I've switched.

RE: What oil to use?

Hey I do have a question for anyone out there. The reason I am using the Amsoil full synthetic 20w-50 is because that was all the auto parts store had at the time. I was in there the other day and I noticed that they are now carrying the Amsoil 10w-40 full synthetic and I want to switch to that grade, any thoughts? I think the 20w-50 is a little thick for my climate, so I'm hoping that since its the full synthetic and same brand and what not I should be able to transition to it. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.;)
