WARNING: This may be a stupid question

I just got a new tire after 3000 miles on the stocker. The new tire I got is only 4 inches wide, while the stocker is 4.5-4.6 in. wide. Will my stock tube be just fine in this new tire? Also, sorry for the probably stupid question. I'd just hate to fark it up when asking a simple question could've saved it. Also, everything else about the new tire is the same as the stocker, depth from tread to rim (apect ratio??) etc.

Thanks,
Mike

Your stock tube should fit fine. I'm running a 3.5" wide now, not stock tube, but same size.

I run 1 size smaller tubes in my KLR. the correct tubes seem too big, get folded over when i fill them up then the tube creases and wears a hole in it. So i run one smaller so there is no folding over and creasing.

Interesting. My '06 KLR is 17/21 inch wheels. So do you run 16/20 inch tubes?

Do you do this only in the KLR, or any other bikes?

I dont run a smaller diameter tube, just one tire size down. My tire is the kenda 270 5.1". I get the 4-4.25" tubes not the 4.75-5.1" ones. I have gotten 2 flats because the tube was folded over in the tire, tried lots of baby powder, hoping it would let the tire slide as it filled up... nope. So i just started running a smaller tube. I just do this in the rear, the front hasnt been a problem. I have changed it 3 times already.

NO WAY!!! I just put the new tires on it 2 days ago - I'm not taking them off until they're worn to nubs... :p

I took the opportunity to put brand new Kenda Tuff Tubes in mine when I changed the tires. I used the exact same size as stock - didn't have a problem getting either of them installed (used lots of baby powder though).
