Default Update on Acerbis tank

Thanks to a thread over on ADVrider, we now have a direct line into Acerbis HDQ in Italy. I've engaged them in conversation about the need for a version of their tank in black or natural color as well as the overall need to increase supply to the US of the tank regardless of color.

I'll keep you posted on progress.

I'm new here, but considering the KLX. I'm very interested in this issue. Is this the tank that mounts on the rear rack, or a replacement of the stock tank? IS this similar to the 3.5gallon tank offered for the KLX300?

I think BMWHD is working on a replacement tank from IMS or Acerbis, another poster here has tried the Acerbis aux tank on the OEM rear rack of the KLX and had failure of the rack due to weight. I working on the auxillary tank method but using a smaller-1 gallon-tank installed at the end of the seat but stabilized by the rear rack....3/4 of the weight carried by the seat and 1/4 by the rack...black tank wrapped in black neoprene spaced so I can still open /close the Pelican case...like others here I dont want to loose the Pelican, its is just too functional.

Keep us posted, I like this idea as a backup if Acerbis or IMS don't work out on the main tank.

This is the Acerbis 3.7 gallon main tank. It's the one on the right. The one on the left is the stock KLX300 tank (2.6 gal.):

I'm hoping we can get more of these sent over to the US and also to get another color choice.

I agree, that tank would be a definite improvement. Although, even a 2.5 gallon tank would be fine. Too big is never a problem, you can always underfill it if you don;t want he extra weight.

I've got all the parts and pieces for my experiment, just no time before trip....honestly I'm hoping Acerbis/IMS/whoever would get one in the track to us before I do the mod, but if not then mod I will.....1.9 gallon is OK for 4 hours of riding but when is that ever enough?...mine will look exactly like tour-tank, just smaller, much smaller, with the Pelican case in place and the 'sleeping bag role' forward enough to give the Pelican case enough room to open and enough of the 'bed role's' weight to rest on the rear of the seat and not on the rack.....well that's my plan....fingers crossed and will post when i return from Florida in march....will post in between of course --surely i'll find wifi on the trip--just not on the tank until i can get something done.

I received the following from my contact at Acerbis:

Dear Todd,

Sorry for my late reply.

I confirm you that we can produce that tank in natural or black colour.

About shipment and price you have to contact our distributor in USA.

I will let you have e-mail address asap. I have to ask which is the right
person.
