I ditched my stock instruments for a Trail Tech Endurance II. I don't need a tach and since I mostly ride woods I wanted something small and light. I also wanted an adjustable trip meter for use with roll charts. A neutral light would have been nice and a turn signal indicator, but I didn't feel it was worth the added complexity to have it. The stock mounts that come with this computer are unusable as far as I can tell. The computer would block the key, be invisible or vulnerable if used. Aside from drilling a small hole and tapping a caliper to mount the sensor the install was pretty easy.

For what it's worth this setup drops around 2 pounds from stock. The stock clocks and speedo drive go about 2.2 lbs and the wire harness that can be eliminated a few more oz. The computer and hardware are very light.

Anyhow, I came up with a simple mount that works well. This is the final result. It clears the key, is stable and high enough that it's easy to read.

I am doing a lot of riding with roll charts now so another reason i got the Endurance is you can adjust the distance odometer.

It's just a simple piece of bar stock AL I got at the hardware store. The light tension of the zip tie dampens any vibration of the computer.

It is rigid enough to support the light weight computer. You can see I also crimped some terminals to fit into the existing connector. I may eventually wire in turn and neutral signals this way.

Fabricating the bracket too about an hour. I had to grind out part of the bar stock to let the wires for the computer pass out the back but it was simple. Anyone with a file or drill could do it. The bracket is about 3.25 inches tall and 12 mm wide. It bolts to the same bracket that is left vacant when you remove the stock instruments. There are two large Phillips heads screws int he upper triple clamp that could be use to form a brace and triangulate the bracket for better support but at this point that's not needed. Maybe I will add that if I add indicator lights.

I knew the wheel size would be something more than 2000mm. I had an idea to set the speed using a GPS. I set the wheel size to 2000, an easy number to multiply. I rode the KLX at exactly 50 MPH using the GPS and checked the Trail Tech computer. It read 47 MPH. So I knew it was 6% off. I multiplied 2000x.0.06 to get a correction of 120 mm. Since the computer was changing up a bit slower than the GPS I rounded this down to 110mm and it was spot on at 2110 mm for a wheel size.

Update: I've ordered these LED indicator lights and may add them at some point in the future. Overall, this setup seems like it will be simple and efficient compared to the stock cluster.
