TM36-68 on stock bore.

Hey everyone, I just recently acquired a TM36-68 pumper and am going to be in the process of jetting it fairly soon. I was just wondering if someone can assist me on where to start to jet based on their own jetting at roughly the same elevation. That way I can tinker with my jetting and get to as close as perfect as I can.

I typically ride anywhere from 800'-1200' ASL in Wisconsin so the temperature can vary vastly. Usual temperature ranges around 70* when I'm riding.

As as far as the bike goes, I currently have a powerbomb header, FMF Powercore muffler, aftermarket air filter, and the air box is closed but has the KDX200 snorkel installed.

I appreciate any help and advice on what sort of jetting to start at so I can get dialed in without spending an absolute fortune on jets. Thanks.

Do you have a 250 or 300?

It's a 2009 KLX 250s. Sorry, I should have clarified that as well.

I have an 09 and a flat slide I've not mounted yet, but I did some research in this forum and with some others. I had a ballpark to start. I will see if I can find it when at home.

Look at my sig line as a decent place to start. I'm at 3,000 ft and up on a 351 big bore.
I believe this is the same setup as TNC running a 300 at a range of elevations.

Where's that jetting spreadsheet....?
Look in the FAQ link in my sig line and you'll find it.

Couldn't find my list at the moment, here are some threads here.

Dr.J , Richard Avatar worked out jetting for a stock bore.. Research his posts and threads..

Dropped a message to Richard and also did some digging.

Found the following:

Here was the search if it shows up right:

I, too, need to review. The work shop is near done and it will be easier to play now.

Just got back from a 2-week Utah/Colorado trip, and yes, I think we're using the same settings on our TM36-68 carbs...mine being a factory 300 cylinder setup that has 11:1 compression instead of the 351's 12:1.

Scott, I had an amazing fuel mileage experience on my last ride in the Jemez mountains in NM on the way back home. I haven't checked fuel mileage "exactly" for quite some time so I was curious. My 3.7 Acerbis was filled on the last ride. I did a 50/50 pavement/dirt ride because it was a recon ride for checking out a new ride location.

I ran out on the main at 160 miles. I had 170 when I got to camp. At home I carefully metered my clear/opaque fuel can to get an exact mileage just out of curiosity. It took exactly 2.5 gallons. That easily comes out to 68mpg. That may be the best mileage I've ever attained. I was really impressed. I pretty much hauled butt on that ride, and you probably recall I'm running pretty low gearing at 14/50...KLX300 stock gearing. I was also running at some decently high altitudes on this ride starting at 7200' all the way to 9600'. Though power was soft at the highest points, I've pretty much quit rejetting my setup for all my trips. I just leave it as we have it, and it does just fine for the few minutes I'm at highest altitude. I think Imogene Pass in CO is the main one I would really notice the jetting.

I have been so extremely happy with this carb. Frankly it's been easier to live with than stock CV rig. On the Acerbis tank, this re-verified that I have a full gallon in reserve when I run out the main. I like not having to worry about fuel on some of the extremely long, remote rides I've taken.

Not bad at all. I'm still running the OEM carb with 300cc OEM cylinder, DJ2148 kit, 132 main, KDX snorkel + lid, powerbomb and Q4 with 1 1/8" quiet insert. My street gearing is 14/42, and my offroad wheels are 14/49.

With that setup my bike gets around 35-40mpg. I could probably drop down a size or two on the main just but fidgeting with the carb innards is not quick & easy.

I've looked at the TM36-68 a few times but haven't felt froggy. I've put a lot more money into this bike as it is so I am hesitant to do any more big upgrades at least not for a while.
