Default Is the temp warning light supposed to come on with Key ?

I tried searching this forum and couldn't find the exact answer.

I have a "new to me" 2006 KLX250S. I have read in the older (93-96) manuals that the temp warning light is supposed to blink when turning the key on (even before starting/running).

The light does not come on. I checked the bulb, and it is good.

Just wondering if they changed the design for 2006 where the light doesn't come on with the key, and only if it reaches the 225 temp.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

The 96-97 supplement has this to say about the circuit:
Coolant Temperature Warning System (KLX250E) When the ignition switch is turned on with the transmission in neutral, the warning light flashes regardless of coolant temperature. This is to show if the light bulb has burned out. If the water temperature is high, the warning light flashes even if the transmission is in gears until water temperature falls.

My 07 temperature light does not come on or blink when ignition on & in neutral. I don't remember if it ever came on, the fan has come on though, sometimes when it's really hot and I am going really slow or up some hill forever.
