Sunday Ride

18 Attachment(s)
Well after church, I decided that since there was a bright orange yellow light shinning down, and the sky was an awesome blue color, it was just simply time for a ride. So off I went, although getting my gear on was a workout in itself. Here is the GPS file, and you can see at one point I almost make it to the ocean, I must have been within feet of the Park. I could hear the ocean, but the road was a dead end.

"Hey Honey, could you take a picture of me for search and rescue?"

I mean look at the day, it froze hard in the morning, but at 1:30 its nearly 50 degrees in the sunshine. However by 3:45 I discovered that the temp drops by 20 degrees real fast.
Attachment 22765

My approval of the ride thus far.
Attachment 22766

More pics with less captions, its easier that way. :D

I gotta tell you, in the fall when things get slippery, and you're running Kenda K270 tires on the back, stay away from the center section of roads like this. I almost lost it a half dozen times. I can't wait for this tire to wear out.

Attachment 22769

And yes there was mud, and yes Deej went through it and actually had fun. Of course I sprayed it off as soon as I got home.
Attachment 22770

This is the end of the road that got me almost to the ocean, I bet it was less than 1/4 mile.

Look at that old culvert, its so old that it has holes all over it. I bet that one is from the 30's.

Just to the right of the water you can see the water line from the storm just a week ago. Its amazing how fast the water can recede.
Attachment 22780

More pics to come, wait for the whole report so I can keep it all together. ;)

Ok continuing on the ride I decided to hit some more areas that I have never been to. In fact I bet I haven't been to 10% of the areas in 3 years. I got a lot of ground to cover.

Found another road, let's see where this goes.
Attachment 22744

Hmmmm looks like it's heading to the ocean as well.
Attachment 22745

Attachment 22746

Starting to close in, but I pressed on anyway.

Attachment 22750

Its sometimes a little creepy out here by yourself, and I forgot my gun!!
Attachment 22751

But you know this place was really interesting, so it took my mind off the fact that I could be riding into a scene in Deliverance.

I see light at the end of the tunnel.

Attachment 22752

The road was another dead end, so I headed back out. On the way back out, I don't know how I missed this, it was an inch and a half hydraulic hose left by the last logging equipment.
Attachment 22753

Got back out on a main road, and came across this old gravel pit, well I usually don't do much hill climbing, and as you all now pictures always make the hill look not as steep, but anyway I rode up to the top a couple of times, and I have to admit that it was a rush.

Well onto more areas, I came across this sign which is a typical DNR road sign. For instance I was on what is called the 5000, and this was a road off that one.
Attachment 22758

Ran into several trees that the bears have been eating on.
Attachment 22759

I thought I would share some gate facts and figures. This one is a DNR gate, there are hundreds out here on the Olympic Peninsula, and I have an e-mail in my tank bag that states that if the gate has no sign saying Motorized vehicles not allowed, then its open to pass around and ride up it. I got it from the head of recreations department in the DNR here in Washington. I call it my get out of jail card in case some DNR rookie stops me behind an unmarked gate.
Attachment 22760

That gate was open , but most are not. Now this gate all the blue ones, are owned by Rayonier Timber and they use a dot system for recreation and during hunting season. None of thier gates allow you behind them if they are closed, or even if you come across a blue gate but it has a red dot, you don't go through it.
Attachment 22761

Close up of the sign.
Attachment 22762

Ok I have one more set of pics that will be in the next installment since you can only put in 20 per post. And smileys count against you so I have been trying to refrain.

One last picture of a big gate, I guess the main line roads need the bigger ones for some reason.
Attachment 22733

Attachment 22734

I took the first shots from up in the mountains still,

Ok these last set of pictures are one last road I hit before it started to get too late and too cold. Looking east back toward the Olympic Mountains in the Olympic National Park.

Attachment 22736

Heading back out finally to the main road and onto the highway.
Attachment 22737
