I like it. You can still do 55-60 without ringing the motor's neck... but you've got alot more potential for slow-speed singletrack. On the slick... sometimes I wish I went with a 48 instead of a 47, but I doubt there's much difference. I think that 120/90 Dunflop 606 is half my problem...
As for 14/47... I like it. 06/07 or a 2009? If you have the 06/07 I'd go with the 48-tooth for sure.

I think its too big a tire for this annemic bike... down there in the land of kangaroos, y'all have a more powerful bike than the stuff we got, so I could see running the 120/90... but my uneducated feeling is that my poor bike struggles to spin than humongous, heavy tire. I'm going to a 110/90 or 110/100 (and a different tire) when Ii have the scratch.
Not sure if anyone has ever posted this website but I found it to be very cool

That's all I used before the 331 kit. It works fine for street and dirt. Went down to a 14/45 cause I'm an idiot and can't cut a chain to the right length without proper supervision. I'll go back to a 47 rear once this chain gets smoked or I shear all the teeth off my front sprocket again.
Thanks everyone for the quick answers I used my 14 46 today at 11k feet in Colorado over a lot of really rocky wet old jeep trails and the combo worked out great. Bob Billen Oh yes, I had to install a longer chain
I did not ride my 06 klx long with stock gearing...I went 13/48 and bought a 120 link green chain...It was plenty.
I set the snail to 5 and let it eat..after a couple of rides adjusted to 9..then a couple days later cut a couple of links off and readjusted.
cheap chains stretch...it does 50mph at 6000rpm. im running a 110/100 trakmaster.

I normally run 14 / 43 but my bike has about double the stock power. 1st is a little high in tight trails but that is what a clutch is for. once I moded the engine I had to do the KTM clutch spring mod because the stock clutch lasted 1/2 day of hard trail racing before being smoked. I can not describe how much fun it is to show up with what looks like a stock bike at a ride and smoke everyone 30 years younger on their new MX bikes. On the other hand, every time I ride my friends KTM350 I realize why my bike is only worth $2500 - $3000. and his cost $12,000. with a few mods. But I have been having fun on my KLX for 17 years!
