I would like everyone's opinionabout going up one heat range on the spark plug. When I was younger I work for our local Yamaha-Kawasaki dealer and the service department always put a hotter spark plug in claiming it helped cold starting problems and less likely to flood.

Sounds like the advice I use to get on my two-stroke. The porcelin insulator is what determines the plug being hot or cold. A stronger spark is always better than a hotter plug! Try the NGK Iridium IX plug - you'll like it!

After doing the exhaust and jetting,air box mods,etc.I thought I should check the spark plug to see how it looked,so I rode to the dealer to get a new one to replace it.The plug they gave me was a CR9E and the owners manual calls for a CR8E should I take it back or what?.It's my understanding this is a cooler plug what do you guys think.By the way the old plug looked goodso I reused it.maybe I should go with the iridium plug ?.

If your old plug looked good then I wouldn't change the heat range on a new plug. I would recommend the NGK Iridium as it does seem to make the bike run smoother.

I just threw the Iridium plug in after washing the bike with the hose (ice cold water) and it not been run for the last 4.5 hrs @ 55 degrees out. After attaching the plug boot, pulled the choke out partway and it fired up before making a full revolution.

Either the bike shut off at a magic location in the stroke or this plug really is a bit better than the CR8E, I don't know which but eh, it was only $10 anyway.

Go for the NGK CR8EIX Iridium. KLX seemed to run smoother on the top end and shortened warm-up time. Comparing the OEM NGK vs. the IX NGK, their seems to more room for the spark, but the gap is the same. More spark equals better fuel burning.

Besides, for like $10 bucks. It will be the best upgrade you'll do. It not like you arechanging 8 plugs on a 4cyl (Ford Ranger) at $10 each plug.

Probably best to stick to the heat range also. Only recommend the hotter plugs for colder climates.
