Default Solution to gearing!!

Hi there!

Why do kawa or other brand does not make some bike with 6 speed with an extra gear to divide in Low gears and High gears. That way, you would have 6 speeds to go into dirt and 6 speeds to ride on the street.

My first dualsport bike was an old suzuki 2 strokes with 5 speeds on low gears and 5 speed on HIGH gears.

Take a look!

bye

Eric the frenchie!

Dual range heh?

What about a 7th gear?

We got it good though with 6.
Some bikes only have 5.

You could do it with little effort by going up a few teeth in the back and having both a 13 and a 15 tooth CS sprocket. Granted you couldn't change on the fly unless you carry around a huge ratchet/breaker bar, but its not that hard of a swap. 13-45 is a great offroad gearing and 15-45 is basically the same as the stock 14-42.

The reason manufacturers don't do it is that would be extremely costly / complicated. More moving parts = more production costs = higher sticker price. Plus its one more thing to go wrong.

The only thing I've driven with 10 speeds was a Mack truck in a parking lot. 6 is fine they just need to be spaced a bit further apart.

On that bike, it worked perfectly! It took seconds to change from High to LOw....

Well my beef with our transmission is the gap from 1st-2nd... gotta wind it up too far in first in the woods IMHO. I'm perfectly fine with the rest of it.

The gears ratio High and Low on my old suzuki were perfect into wood as well as on street!!
