I remember someone posted a tread around the new year about snow tracks available specifically for our KLX250s. I can't recall the brand, anyone have a better memory than mine?:confused:

I never understood those.. They're like $5k!!

You can get a sick nasty snowmobile for half of that and it will be faster, handle better, and all around just better on the snow.

I guess if you're rich and just like to play with new stuff, but seriously, get a sled if you want to play in the snow!

I got the kit for about 3.5k including installation and taxes.
Yes it's expensive, but it's still cheaper than a sled and there's no extra insurance and no extra plate because it's still my bike.
If you want to ride in wide open area, I agree, get a sled.
If you want to drive like an enduro bike in tight wood, get an explorer kit.
Driving that is a sport, it drives like a bike, not like a sled, but it's harder to drive than in summer. That keeps you warm enough. Every single ride I've done I came back wet because of sweating, even at -20C (-4F).
The price of my klx and my explorer is still lower than the price of a ktm alone and I get twice as much fun!

I'm not so sure about not being able o get a sled cheaper. This past winter my buddy picked up a SICK Polaris triple 700, thing is ungodly fast and scary. Runs perfect, got it for $2k. I'm sure it'll beat a KLX on tracks in pretty much any category.

I'm not saying the tracked KLX is stupid, just saying a dedicated sled costs less and performs better. There's a reason sleds have their front skiis so far apart!

That being said, I'd still like to try one just to say I did. haha.. I'm sure it's still fun.

I have a ripping Polaris 680 tripple, but wouldn't take it where the snow track can go. A couple friends who are VERY good sled riders on nice machines were out last weekend. One of them followed some tracks in the snow left by one of these snow tracks thinking it was a snowmobile trail. It took him into a very bad spot that took several hours to extract himself from. The tracks from the snow track just went right back up the hill, weaving between the trees. These things will definitely take you where no snowmobile dare go.
