Short windshield/windscreen?

I thought I saw a picture on one of the KLX forums where someone had fitted a short windshield from a KLR to the KLX, but I can't find it again. Anyone that can steer me in the right direction? I'm not looking for a traditional taller windshield, but one that will provide some protection for my handlebar mounted GPS. More along the lines of a Paris Dakar windscreen seen on many of the PD bikes.

Thanks,

Tom

Maybe the TCI windsheild>? Google TCI and KLX
Might be taller than you want.

Thanks for the reply Dan. I looked at the TCI and yes, they are too tall for what I want. I'm looking at 8"-10" max and it doesn't have to be clear. It could bolt right to the headlight housing, or if Kawasaki had PD bikes perhaps something would replace the complete housing? I need the more vertical position as well, so it doesn't follow the line of my '09 stock housing and protrude back into the GPS. Maybe I'm just dreaming?

You mean the Harbor Freight safety mask windshield?
A couple of people bought cheap clear safety shields, took off the clear plastic and fastened it to the headlight cover.
Here I found it.

I like the safety mask version. For me it's gotta be small. Enough to remove some air from the chest, but not high enough to put the turbulence on my helmet. I prefer the blast at neck level where there's very little surface area to act like a sail. That safety mask or old helmet visor idea looks about right.

That's not the one I'm referring to, but it looks pretty darned good to me. Hi Ho, Hi Ho, . . . .it's off to Harbor Freight I go. I might see if I can come up with some other type of fasteners, though by investing in two masks, you'd have a spare!

Thank you!

ive made my own from lexan sold at home depot
use a large infrared heater to shape the plastic just to get a slight curve
and then painted black

on the bike I did it on I just screwed into the plastic headlight cover

You're not dreaming, one of the members here with a red klx has a stock 08 klr windshield on the klx. I'm not sure what his name is but the pictures are in the klx picture thread and he rides with other members here as well.

I plan on getting the same setup one day :) hope that helps.

Paul,

I believe that is the one I saw, thank you. While I think it looks really good, since I lean to the frugal (read cheap) side, I think I'll give the Harbor Freight one a go. My bike will almost never see pavement, so some protection from branches for my GPS and any dual sport mirrors I end up with is what I'm looking for.

How did we ever finds things before, without the internet??:D

Thanks,

Tom

You may be able to find the KLR windshield used through one of the KLR forums.
