Looking to replace my clutch and brake handles on my 2006 KLX250S with shorter ones. I have 2 sets of barkbusters (one that came with the bike with extra parts and one that I picked up on ebay.) The stock handles are too long to work with them, so I want to get shorter ones. I know that I can cut off the ***** on the ends, I have done that on other bikes, but really don't like doing that. Not looking to break the bank, some ebay cheapies will work.
So my question is what other bike make, model, year brake and clutch handles will fit 2006 or what aftermarket brand /part # handles will work for a 2006 KLX250S? I read somewhere that the ones for a Ninja 250 would work, so I picked up a set on ebay that I thought would fit. They did not. I don't want to get another set that doesn't fit again. Anyone know what will definetly fit a 2006

 

Front brake lever - Anything that fits the KLR and KLX650 or the KLX450 (not very common) will work - same part number as the 06 250.
Clutch lever - Anything that fits the KLX650 or Supersherpa

You may still end up cutting levers off and rounding the ends. That's what I did with both my KLX650 (actually broke the clutch lever) and my KLX250.

 

Just cut your stockers. Do a nice, smooth grind, and you'll have as good a set of levers than you can buy aftermarket. You have barkbusters, so you don't have to worry about stabbing yourself as some are concerned with.

 

I had the same problem. Got some after market short levers off ebay. Brake was fine, but as clutch assembly is a bit closer to the centre of the handle bar, the **** was in the way. So had to cut it off. Don't like the feel not having the ****, but only other option is to try to find another. Good tip about searching the klx560. Thanks.

 

You know, I bet if you found a decent TIG welder they might weld the ball ends back on after cutting down the levers for less than the cost of shorty levers. You could also do a home made job, by cutting off the ball ends with a bit of the lever, center drill both parts of the lever for a roll pin, then stick them together with some JB Weld and leave enough to file and shape them. Shorty levers for the cost of a couple roll pins, maybe a drill bit, and some JB Weld.

What made me think of the JB Weld deal was when we had a Honda Nighthawk S traded in with a couple prominent head fins broken off. The mechanic cut the fins off for a straight edge, drilled a couple holes in each fin and some aluminum of appropriate thickness, pinned them together with JB Weld, filed to shape and painted black. Three fins you couldn't tell.
