shift star mod
i have one of the klx's that doesn't always shift into second and has a lot of false nuetrals. was looking thru thumper talk and came across some talk about a shift star mod. i couldn't find any further details on this. has anyone heard of this? they say that it's an easy mod but not much else.is the shift star an upgrade or just a repalcement with a stock shiftstar? one guy mentioned grinding. grinding what? also something about a spring not completely disengaging something. what the /%#$$@%& are they talking about????

RE: shift star mod
There was an aftermarket shift star that someone tried but right out of the box it didn't fix anything, they had to do some modifying to it and then it had positive solid shifting. When was your last oil change? Mine miss shifts only when the oil is getting old. I've been changing it every 600-1000 miles and it shifts buttery smooth after an oil change. How many miles do you have on it, I had a lot of miss shifts when it was new, took a few hundred miles to get good positive engagement.

RE: shift star mod
#1 try switching to synthetic - I found that helped the shifting...
#2 try modding your own shift star... (The one from Four Stroke Works doesn't fit the KLX250S anyway)... See here Double snorkel & shift star fix installed and here Shift star dilemma solved (sort of) I ended up grinding my own shift star to look similar to the one from FSW... This is a pretty easy DIY job. |
RE: shift star mod
thank you. it seems as though that stuff was done long before i had my klx. i'll try it as see how it goes.
