Default SF tm36-68

Just installed, idle was hanging, took a while to get the mixture decent, probably needs the 17.5 pilot everyone runs.

I'm not very enthused with how I had to run the throttle cable. Those of you who have the SF, did you have to buy longer throttle cables? I have mine completely outside the loom run straight down past the valve cover and into the carb, feels tight to pull (no return cable could be why as well), and I don't like it run just straight there.

I ended up turning my throttle to under the bar, which gained a little slack in the throttle cable. I had to rotate the front brake lever *** a bit to do it-which required grinding off the inner locating nub of the switch next to the fr brake *** so I could rotate that a little as well.

Yep, run my throttle housing upside down too even on an S model. Kind of like the cable running under there...out of the way.

This might work:

Go with the longer ones (they are for the s model)

I've done that on my trials bike and on the SR500 too. Behind the bar and out of the way for sure. I even ran the cable behind the fork leg instead of around and through between the leg and the steering tube. It works better when turning full lock left, the cable is able to have a bit more room, where the one over the bar isn't quite as good.

I purchased a MotionPro throttle cable that's longer than the OEM cable
Pull cable only.

Specs for the cable attached.

Thanks guys! I managed to get the throttle play enough so it doesn't cause idle surge when moving the handlebars. That's good enough for now.

I finally went out and took her for a LONG ride and noticed a couple things, after letting of the gas and rolling on again, just at the 1/16 or 1/8 throttle mark, there is a slight surge/flatspot. Is this the needle jet? If I just wack it to 1/4 throttle there is no hesitation.

Midrange seems sluggish to my perception, it pulls, but just a little off..stock needle moved to 3rd position before carb install, probably too lean. When throttle is let off after midrange run there is NO surge in rpm (not rich?)

Currently the carb is stock 12.5 pilot, 130main, p8 needle jet, 9DZH6-50 jet needle. I've been looking at ALL the tuning threads, and will probably end up with what mustang has, 17.5 pilot, 130 main, p4 needle jet, 9EBY1-50 jet needle; seeing as I'm at 2200' when he's at 2400'. However I like to double check my problem areas before copying someone elses jetting, just in case my needs are different.

http://www.mikuni.com/pdf/hs40_manual.pdf - this has been helping me out, but I'm not carb guru haha

Might be better to copy someone else's jetting like Mustang's and Dan Moore's and then tweak as necessary for your application. I think you will need that 17.5 pilot.
